Neal Casal “Running Wild” – Americana UK

Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader – it’s been another week of trekking around the country for me and my little clan, this time to the chilly climes of Cambridgeshire where the most exciting thing to happen was being stopped by the police for driving over the white line in the middle of the road. I was all ready for him to ask me “Do you support Palestine Action?” but it turns out he was more interested in my driving. We leave you anyway with the third and final single to be released in advance of the forthcoming Neal Casal archival album, “No One Above You (The Early Years 1991–1998)”. One of four covers on the collection, ‘Running Wild’ was written by the legendary Tom T. Hall, a major influence on Casal as a young songwriter. Casal initially recorded his enchanting rendition of the song when he was asked to contribute to a Tom T. Hall tribute album. He gravitated towards “Running Wild” given his personal connection to its lyrics, since, as a child, Casal would spend most weekends on a horse farm in Warwick, NY, where his dad raised horses.

The album is being released alongside a 304-page companion photo memoir “No One Above You (Christy Coleman + Neal Casal – A Love Story In Photographs)” created by Casal’s former wife, Christy Coleman. The book provides a vital document of the same era that these early songs and recordings were being made. More details on this and everything else here.

Take care everyone, don’t forget Palestine and keep fighting the fascists. Enjoy the holiday weekend if you’re in this neck of the woods, and see you on Tuesday.
