Emerging Indian producer and DJ, ZIFR (pronounced ZEE-fur), dropped his latest sonic offering Snare Devil on 4 July, via his newly established imprint ZYNC Records.
ZIFR’s take on electronic music knows no bounds, with a soundscape that draws influence from jazz, contemporary electronica, breaks and house to name just a few. It’s this tenacity and forward-thinking notion which has set ZIFR on a formidable path driven by passion and fearlessness, which echoes throughout Snare Devil.
With the three track EP, ZIFR finds peace in the chaos and comfort within the discomfort. The EP is experimental in nature and shows off ZIFR’s adept technical skills, as well as his fervent ability to create from the heart.
The opening track, ‘Friendly Fire’ which features DigiPhugg, is a bold jazz-infused statement showcasing a softer, more eccentric side of ZIFR. With luscious loops, captivating synths, an ear-worm hook and a sublime piano motif, the track is a sensational amalgamation of jazz and left-field electronica. ‘808 Spirit’ follows, and introduces a more brooding energy in comparison to its predecessor. Its hazy, psychedelic nature makes it a stand out on the EP, while it exhibits ZIFR’s sublime versatility. The closing track, ‘Snare Devil’ is fuelled by grit and laced with analog undercurrents. Its warped energy creates a sense of disorientation, while still gripping the listener with its compelling aura.
Speaking on the EP ZIFR revealed; “This EP is about weaponizing tension. It’s gritty, epic, and full of contrast – moments of vibe next to distortion and chaos.”
With a powerful global presence, ZIFR has performed in South East Africa, South East Asia as well as India, enchanting audiences with his beguiling soundscape. If Snare Devil is anything to go by, his global presence and influence will only ascend from here on out.
