Ryan Gosling’s upcoming sci-fi film ‘Project Hail Mary’ is already making waves ahead of its release, breaking trailer viewership records with over 400 million views since its June debut.
The film, directed by acclaimed duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (‘The Lego Movie’, ’21 Jump Street’), features Gosling as an astronaut who wakes up alone aboard a space station, with no memory of his identity or mission. As the story unfolds, he gradually uncovers the truth: he was sent on a critical mission to save humanity by halting a cosmic event that’s causing the sun to slowly die. His journey, however, takes a turn when he realises he may not be alone in space.

Based on Andy Weir’s best-selling novel of the same name, ‘Project Hail Mary’ is scheduled to hit theatres on 20th March, 2026. Despite still being months away from release, the trailer has already shattered records, becoming the most-viewed trailer ever for an original film — not connected to any sequel or remake — according to Deadline.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Team is Overwhelmed
The directing team took to social media to express gratitude for the overwhelming response. In a joint message shared with fans, they celebrated the historic milestone and teased upcoming appearances at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H, where they’ll be joined by Gosling, author Andy Weir, and screenwriter Drew Goddard, among others.

The success of the ‘Project Hail Mary’ trailer is just the latest sign of Gosling’s growing presence in the sci-fi genre. Earlier this year, he was confirmed as the lead in ‘Starfighter’, an upcoming standalone ‘Star Wars’ film directed by Shawn Levy (‘Deadpool & Wolverine’). Actress Mia Goth has also joined the cast, with the film slated for release in 2027.
With ‘Project Hail Mary’ setting records and anticipation building around his future roles, Ryan Gosling’s trajectory in science fiction appears to be just beginning, and fans are here for the ride.
