Sounds from beyond the Shed 196 “Technical Issues” – Americana UK

The discerning readers amongst you will have been religiously listening to the radio broadcast attached below since its inception. Every week, I travel to a radio studio in Milton Keynes and for two hours, I play some cracking music and mutter about this and that and overcome the occasional bout of chaos as I cue up the wrong track or the equipment fails to read my mind and play the next song as I’m busily looking at my notes. It’s a blast and goes out live, so I have a couple of listeners who regularly have bets on at what precise time the first error will take place. Usually, it’s very early, or if I’m aware that the show is error-free, I stumble at the last hurdle as my confidence soars. It is, after all, just a radio show and is designed to bring pleasure, however vicariously.

Once the show has gone out, I download a copy at home and then upload it to Mixcloud. This is usually a very simple operation. You upload the MP3, write some notes, attach some tags and a photo, and a playlist, and press GO. Only this week, when I pressed go, the computer literally said no. Seven times. Each time telling me there was an error, but not exactly where…

I needed help. And this is where things took a turn for the worse. No helpline. It’s all forms and wait for a reply, and when the reply comes, it’s suspiciously like the wording of the FAQ section, which I had already consulted. What to do?  I went old school and waited till the next day, and started all over again. And of course it worked. I won’t get back the grey hairs I lost, but what I wouldn’t give for an old-fashioned helpline, but hey, first-world problems, eh?

Some great new stuff out this week, Molly Tuttle being one of them, but this is a brilliant cover version instead, and the brilliance of some archive Neal Casal, as highlighted by last week’s editorial. This week’s radio show features Flypaper, Whitney K, DBT, Margo Price, Merry Clayton, and much more. As ever…
